Q: How do I stop issuers from sending me credit card offers in the mail? (from ask.fdic.gov)

A: You can call 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688) or go to OptOutPrescreen.com* to remove your name from the lists supplied to credit card companies and the three nationwide credit reporting companies (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) and another credit company, Innovis. These lists are for preapproved offers for credit cards, insurance, and other types of credit. Your opt-out request will be implemented within five business days; however, you will continue to receive credit offers because your name may have already been provided to companies who have yet to send their offers.
