Travel tips: When Shopping in Brazil

If you're going to #Brazil I suggest taking an international credit or debit card to use as your primary payment method there. It is increasingly difficult to pay using cash in Brazil, especially in large cities.

BUT it is still important to carry some cash with you. Street vendors may not take cards. Payment systems may be down.

Keep in mind that when you pay in cash, sellers often do not have change. So, it is advisable to carry small change with you.

You will certainly see people and businesses asking to be paid via Pix. #Pix is a means of making instant bank transfers in Brazil. In other words, you can pay a person or business by sending money from your bank account to theirs at any Brazilian bank. The transfer is instant. But Pix only works between Brazilian accounts. It is like Zelle in the USA.
